Amazing Malaysia - a week in KL and Melaka

We had a hot, busy 6 days in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, as the blog hasn’t been working I am going to just list all the amazing things we did. 3 days in each was still enough to do a lot and if we had planned in more time I would have extended the trip to some of the stunning East Coast islands.

Kuala Lumpur:
  • An attempt to go visit the Twin Towers, it was the end of Ramadan so these were unfortunately shut for our visit. Make sure you prebook if you are planning a trip as unlike when I went 10 years ago, it is now not free and busier than ever.
  • A walk through the hustle and bustle of Chinatown, awesome street stalls to watch and at the end of Jalan Sultan some awesome coffee shops to try. This looked like a great area to explore as new restaurants and cafes seem to be opening up constantly. I loved Lim Kee Cafe at the Tian Jing Hotel. We watched as across the street a man made noodles by hand street side.
  • A night out at The Enclave Bangsar, a Bar owned by an ex colleague of Rob’s which was the perfect spot for a sunset beer.
  • A hot and humid walk through the beautiful KL gardens, Taman Botani Perdana. Grab taxis were a godsend in Malaysia, they were a cheap way to easily get around...and home to some aircon when it all just got too hot.
  • Eating out at our local mall foodcourt connected to our hotel. We stayed at Aloft Sentral which was a great location not just for the fact it was connected to a mall and I could do a quick H&M shop.
  • Alor Street food market for a jam packed experience of colour and cuisine.

Melaka
  •  Simply walking and exploring this beautiful town filled with amazing architecture. We enjoyed fantastic coffee at HeeSan which was one of my highlights.
  • A walk through the famous Jonker Street night market.
  • Exploring what life was like for a wealthy local family 100 years ago at the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum. This grand house is still in the family but open to visitors when the family aren’t there for special days.
  • Eating riverside as the sunset and tourists boats passed.
  • A visit to a museum inside a replica of a Portuguese sailing ship.

What's Happening?

Last year we took the plunge, left our jobs and set off travelling Central America and America for 3 and a half months. Now it’s 7 months later and we are off again to explore parts of South East Asia.
